Short history of IRONMAN
Triathlon is a continuous completion of swimming, bicycling and running courses. The emphasis is on the continuity. The first competition was held only 30 years ago.
According to the legend, 30 years ago four Hawaiian Marine Officers were competing who was the most powerful. The first jumped into the ocean and swam 3,800 meter. The second said "that is nothing" and pedaled 180 kilometer on a bicycle across the sun-baked lava fields. The third man performed a Marathon running 42.2 kilometer. The fourth fellow said: "Look friends! I will do all that you’ve done without a stop."
Whether it happened or not, thousands of people fight for the right to take part in the big adventure year after year.
Preface:
My name is Jozsef Major. My sport is the middle and long distance triathlon but I compete in duathlon with the Hungarian National Team, as well. During the 19 years of my professional career as a triathlete I finished many international and national tournaments with success. I am especially proud of the Ironman Hungarian Championship titles four times (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) and my best result (22nd) in the Hawaiian World Championship in 2007. These results made me an internationally recognized triathlete.
Our primary goal: I will participate in four major competitions in 2008. The most important is the Hawaiian World Championship where I want to finish in the first 20 in 2008, the best 15 in 2009 and in the top 10 in 2010.
The most important stages of my life
I was born in Cegléd (Hungary) in the 21st of January 1979.
1989-1998: I started my sports career at the age of 10. After running as a youth, I began to focus on the duathlon and participated in several world games as a member of the Hungarian National Team.
1998-2008: I started my triathlon career at Széchenyi István University in Győr where Laszló Papp and Dr. Géza Zakariás led my trainings. Thanks to the outstanding professionalism of my trainers my results improve continuously. Despite the excellent training, I live in a collage dormitory with sufficient accomodations but without the necessary conditions and support for a professional athlete.
2009: Since February 2009 I work with a coach from San Diego, called Sergio Borges. www.sbxtraining.com

Opinion of the expert eye
I have been Jozsef Major’s trainer since the Fall of 2004. Based on previous data, load tests and actual results, at that time, we had decided he had the greatest potential to reach international recognition in the long-distance version of triathlon races: the IRONMAN competition. After the optimization of the intensity and volume of his training regimen, we saw immediate positive changes. As a result of our work done together, Jozsef won the IRONMAN National Championship in Hungary in 2005 and defended it with a field record in 2006, 2007 and in 2008. He won the Short Range Duathlon National Championship in 2006, as well. His international results are improving continuously (see annex). The effects of our specialized high volume bicycle training (16,000 km per year) are shown in the outstanding and stable running results. Jozsef Major is recognized as one of the best IRONMAN runners of the world. He has extraordinary opportunities ahead of him, considering his age and the fact that top triathlon competitors reach their peak between the age of 32-34.
I see his break through possibilities in the followings:
1. Swimming: Extend the current load of 15-17 km per week to 22-25 km. Purchase a swimming-ergometer and emphasize the power trainings throughout the year. The goal is to reach 3-4 minutes for the 3,800 meter.
2. Bicycle: Keep the span of the trainings and increase the intensity. Hot climate training camps with top quality triathletes. Use of a Watt meter to calibrate the intensity of the training. Goal: 15-20 minutes improvement.
3. Running: With the above mentioned items improved, in 1 to 2 years of time it will be possible for him to keep the leading group in close sight at the start of the run. That could bring, knowing József’s fighting spirit, an outstanding 2 hour 40 min result.
4. Regeneration: The daily 6-8 hours of training would require an undisturbed rest between the trainings and for the night. This is not the case, due to the conditions in the dormitory he presently lives in. A decent accommodation with easy access to the training facilities would solve this problem.
To avoid injuries, a constant availability of a physiotherapist would be essential to his further development.

From the viewpoint of a previous IRONMAN Champion _100x137t0_ic.jpg)
I have been waiting for a classy challenger like ‘Majorka’ since the ’80s. Sadly, we will never have the chance to compete against each other. But I can clearly see his potential to exceed my professional results. He is persistent with his training regimen, he is a tough competitor, physiologically perfect, humble and intelligent.
Soar, son, soar !
